LOVING OTHERS

Transforming into His character

For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters,
proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal,
despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure
rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying
its power. And from such people, turn away! ...men of corrupt
minds, disapproved concerning the faith.

2 Timothy 3: 2–5, 8 (NKJV)

This week

We consider six characteristics that the Holy Spirit
can develop in Kingdom citizens as He teaches you
to
love others.

  • LOVING

  • COMPASSION

  • TRUSTWORTHY

  • AFFIRMATION

  • OBEDIENCE

  • HUMILITY

One of the evening's celebrations, during a cruise, highlighted a couple who had been married for the
longest in the entire theater. This beautiful couple displayed all the signs of deep affection—holding
hands, helping each other up the stairs, looking into each other's eyes while chatting—and the wife even
broke out in a short giggle as they reminisced for us all to soak in. Having been married for over 65
years, they shared about overcoming the great depression, pandemics, and health issues and how they
grew to love each other through it all. Their stories left the entire room on the edge of our seats and
filled our hearts with hope and courage to invest in our own marriages, despite what each couple was
facing. While the bible commands us to love others, we may be tempted to only invest in our loved
ones. But as we allow the Holy Spirit to shape us into His image, we look beyond our immediate selves
into the scriptural meaning of 'others'—our extended family, friends, neighbors, street, town, city, state,
country, and world—'others' meaning 'all' besides yourself. We are not born with the capacity or
knowledge of how to begin to love in this way, but unless we embrace the one true love, Jesus Christ,
we cannot see the unloveable as God sees us. So let's commit to loving others God's way through the
positive times and the challenging times so that our reminiscing can bring hope to others as well.

Romans 13:8 NLT

Love Fulfills God’s
Requirements

8 Owe nothing to anyone
—except for your
obligation to love one
another. If you love your
neighbor, you will fulfill
the requirements of God’s
law.

John 13:34 NLT

34 So now I am giving
you a new
commandment: Love
each other. Just as I
have loved you, you
should love each
other.

1 John 4:8 NLT

8 But anyone who
does not love does not
know God, for God is
love.

PRAY

My loving Father, thank you for loving me even before I knew you.
Forgive me for failing to express your love to others. Teach me to
show others your love in my words and actions. As I grow to love
You and myself, help me to change what I think and believe about
others so that they align with Your divine truth. Let Your
transformation of my heart be noticeable not just to me but to
others as an example of Your love. In Jesus name, Amen

DO

  • It won’t take long to think of someone you don't get along with; be intentional about extending one act of love to that person. One act- One person.

  • Meditate on this explanation of God’s love by Bible Project Agape - Love and journal any new discoveries about loving others.

In light of the 2020 global pandemic, CNN reported random acts of compassion from around the world. From a rooftop physical trainer in Spain grabbing the attention of an entire residential complex, keeping them active in the fresh air from the comfort of their balconies, to local restaurants turning into community kitchens to feed those in need, Compassion is one of God's many colorful characteristics that are so evident in His salvation plan for our souls. He saw us in desperate need of hope, healing, and restoration, knowing that giving His only Son would bring us eternal life. Each of us gets the honor of showing the world an example of this divine compassion in our everyday lives. That's why stories like CNN's grab our attention and remind us that God's compassion dwells in us for His glory to keep paying it forward.

In a world where trust in media is waning, a recent Pew Research Center survey highlights the
critical factors Americans consider when determining a news story's trustworthiness. According
to the study, the most important elements include the news organization that publishes the story
and the sources cited within it. Interestingly, the survey also reveals generational differences:
older Americans place more trust in traditional news outlets, while younger adults are nearly as
likely to trust information from social media as from national news sources. While this data
underscores the complexities of establishing trustworthiness in journalism today, Kingdom
citizens can rest assured of the trustworthiness of God and His Word. As His image, we are to
reflect His trustworthiness to others and even to ourselves. Can you be trusted?

7 “But blessed are those who
trust in the Lord and have
made the Lord their hope

AFFIRMATION

Although the RMS Titanic is the most well-known shipwreck in history, the impact of words
has also resulted in the loss of countless lives and the destruction of generations. Words
serve as the rudder and steering mechanism for guiding others through the complexities of
life, just as a ship's rudder determines its direction amid unpredictable seas. Whether
carefully chosen or slingshotted unintentionally, words can steer others towards clarity,
purpose, growth, or destruction. As Kingdom citizens, our words have the power to inspire,
motivate, shape perspectives, and influence decisions and actions. Choose to affirm the life,
truth, and hope in others, and allow the Holy Spirit to prune our words as we represent
hope and light to those around us. Consider your relationships as a child, parent, spouse,
leader, or coworker. Does your words build or destroy?

obedience

A baby's natural tendency to disobey is part of their developmental process, and it often
emerges as they start to explore their environment and independence. Disobedience in
babies is not a sign of defiance, but rather a critical aspect of learning and understanding
the world around them, testing boundaries to discover cause and effect and gauge their
adult’s reaction. This developmental fact does not change the expectation of parents for
obedience to keep babies safe, healthy, and happy. Even though disobedience starts in the
home, it can develop into rebellion as we become older and reject God's directives and
laws that are supposed to protect us and make us righteous. As the Holy Spirit now lives in
you, disobedience will become uncomfortable, giving you endless opportunities to repent
and adjust to a habit of obedience.

and you will be my
people. Walk in
obedience to all I
command you, that it
may go well with you.

John 14:23 NIV

Jesus replied, “Anyone
who loves me will obey
my teaching. My Father
will love them, and we
will come to them and

PRAY

Heavenly Father, thank you for your divine grace towards me.
Forgive my disobedience, delayed obedience and defiant heart and
mind. Help me to start anew with your Holy Spirit leading my
responses to Your instructions because You love me and I trust You
alone to know what is best for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

DO

  • Consider how your past disobedience to parents or authorities has
impacted your life. After praying the prayer above, if possible,
contact your parents with an apology and make adjustments in your
habits to respond in obedience the way God wants you to.

  • Journal your new discoveries about promptly obeying God’s
    instructions.

humility

Although genetic research confirms scripture that all humans are 99.9 percent identical in
their genetic makeup, it is amazing how we can allow that remaining 0.1 percent to divide
us and define us. Similarly, haughtiness chooses to focus on our differences, seeking to
position our minds and hearts as superior in any way to others. No matter how narrow our
focus is—on hair texture, skin tone, intellect, neighborhood, or economic status—we must
not forget the diverse description of heaven in Revelation 7. If we refuse to let the Holy
Spirit change our hearts while we are here on earth, we will not be happy sharing eternity
with people of every creed and race.

from every nation and

And they were shouting

PRAY

Heavenly Father, thank you for teaching me your ways and forgive
my haughty mindset and for thinking of myself better than others in
my words and actions. Show me the right way to think and love
others and expose my wrong opinions regardless of the differences.
Help me to see others as you see us Father as I learn to trust You
more and more . In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  • Reflect on your motives when interacting with others. Be intentional about embracing the differences that won’t matter in heaven and build a habit of being sincere, starting with one genuine act towards someone you previously thought you were superior to in some way.

  • Journal any haughty thoughts or perspectives and invite the Holy Spirit to begin transforming your heart and mind.
